Alleged escapee in custody - Cooma

A man who allegedly escaped from a Cooma correctional facility has been arrested following a man hunt in the state’s south overnight.

About 2.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 July 2025), police were called to a correctional facility in Cooma, following reports of an escapee.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District were notified and immediately began conducting inquiries to locate the 28-year-old man.

Following extensive investigations, the escapee was arrested at a service station on Sharp Street, Cooma, about 12.30am today (Wednesday 16 July 2025).

He was taken to Cooma Police Station.

Inquiries into the incident continue.
