Police have charged seven people during a high visibility drug operation in the Snowy Mountains region, over the weekend.

The two-day high visibility operation ran from Friday 11 July 2025 and Saturday 12 July 2025, involved officers attached to Monaro Police District, Traffic South Command and the NSW Dog Unit.

The operation focussed on drug detection, enforcement in licensed premises, safety on the roads in and out of the snowfields and surrounds in Perisher Valley, Thredbo and Charlotte's Pass.

The following results were achieved

  • 7 charges laid
  • 6 drug detections including 20 MDMA pills, cannabis, cocaine and ketamine seized
  • 31 people searched
  • 32 license premises inspected (on and off the snow fields)
  • 3 move on directions issued
  • 1 fail to quit
  • 35 random breath tests conducted
  • 2 PCAS detected
  • 1 positive random drug test
  • 1 criminal infringement notice issued for fireworks possession
  • 2 outstanding warrant offenders arrested

Monaro Police District Commander Superintendent Toby Lindsay APM said this should serve as a warning to everyone travelling to the snow.

“The main focus of Operation Snow Safe is keeping our community safe on and off the slopes. We want people to come and enjoy the snowfields, however drug use or drug distribution won’t be tolerated. Uniformed and plain clothes officers will continue patrolling licensed premises, events and the road networks in and out of the Snowy Mountains Region,” Superintendent Lindsay said.

Operation Snow Safe runs annually from the June to October long weekend and sees additional General Duties, Traffic & Highway Patrol and specialist police officers from across New South Wales, deployed to the Snowy Mountain region.
