A man has been charged over the alleged assault of three police officers in Sydney’s west yesterday.
Acting NSW Police Commissioner Peter Thurtell said the alleged assaults are an example of the risks police officers face on a daily basis.
“This was an allegedly unprovoked and sickening attack on three young police officers who were simply doing their job,” Acting Police Commissioner Thurtell said.
“I commend the bravery and courage of the officers involved – they deserve respect not violence.
“Police attend these welfare-related jobs on a daily basis and incidents like this one highlight the risks and dangers officers face when they are out on our streets protecting the local community,” he said.
Just before 6.30pm (Friday 4 July 2025), police were called to Bunya Road, Bidwill, near Daniels Road, following reports a man was laying in the middle of the road.
Officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command attended and located the man.
As the two officers approached the man, he allegedly assaulted a 23-year-old female constable by kicking and punching her, causing her to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. She had since been discharged from hospital.
The second officer – a 22-year-old female constable – was allegedly punched in the face by the man, before she deployed OC spray.
She was treated at the scene and was taken to Mt Druitt Hospital as a precaution. She has also been discharged from hospital.
Two further police officers attended the scene, and the 19-year-old man was successfully arrested.
He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, before being taken to Nepean Hospital for assessment. While he was being moved, the man allegedly bit a third police officer on the arm.
The officer – a male constable – was taken to Mt Druitt Hospital for treatment.
Upon his release from hospital, the 19-year-old man was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and three counts of hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 5 July 2025).
