Operation Soteria investigates break-in, pursuit - Walgett

Investigations have commenced following an armed break and enter in the state’s North West yesterday.

Just after 1am yesterday (Tuesday 24 June 2025), police were called to a home on Wee Waa Street, Walgett, following reports of a break and enter.

Officers attached to Central North Police District attended and were told two people forced their way into the home, before threatening an 89-year-old man with a baseball bat before leaving in a stolen white Toyota SUV.

A crime scene was established and investigation commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

About 1.20am, officers patrolling the area located the SUV travelling at speed on Fox Street, Walgett.

When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued to along Wimbledon Road and Castlereagh Highway before police lost sight of the vehicle and terminated the pursuit.

Police hope to speak with two people they believe can assist with inquiries. They are described as being, of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, and wearing face coverings and gloves.
