UPDATE: Auburn shooting referred to Taskforce Falcon
Monday, 16 June 2025 05:56:54 PM
Taskforce Falcon is to take the investigative lead into the shooting of three people at a food outlet in Auburn earlier today.
Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command were called to South Parade about 1.15pm (Monday 16 June 2025), after two men with their faces covered entered a kebab shop and fired eight shots. They left in a black Audi Q7 bearing cloned numberplates.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated three people for gunshot wounds before all were taken to a hospital for further specialist treatment.
A 26-year-old man suffered wounds to his shoulder and arm, a woman, believed to be aged 50, was shot twice in the torso, while a second man – age unconfirmed – was shot in the face.
The first two victims are said to be in a stable condition while the second man is said to be in a serious condition.
A crime scene was established with nearby streets shut down while the area was searched by specialist officers.
Acting NSW Police Commissioner, Peter Thurtell, described the incident as incomprehensible, with initial inquiries indicating the 26-year-old man – who is known to police – being the target of the attack.
“As recently as last Friday, police had spoken with the man due to concerns about his safety. This man has already been the target of previous shooting attempts,” Commissioner Thurtell said.
“It's outrageous that these people have now taken their fight to the streets of Sydney. This is not what we expect in this city,” he said.
The investigation has now been referred to Taskforce Falcon. The taskforce is led by State Crime Command, with the NSW Crime Commission, to investigate and suppress violent crime in the Sydney metropolitan area.
It is supported operationally by officers attached to the three metropolitan regions, South West Metropolitan Region, North West Metropolitan Region and Central Metropolitan Region.
To date, Taskforce Falcon has completed more than 500 proactive taskings, charged 23 people with a total of 53 charges, and taken seven firearms and 20 staged vehicles off the streets.
