Man charged after officer injured - Coffs Harbour

A man has been charged after a police officer was injured while on-duty at Coffs Harbour early this morning.

About 4am (Friday 13 June 2025), police from Coffs/Clarence Police District were patrolling King Street, Coffs Harbour.

Police stopped to speak with the rider of a motorbike, and when officers asked the rider to stop the motorbike, he allegedly rode towards two police officers.

The rider jumped from the motorbike which continued moving forward, striking a police officer's leg.

The officer – a constable aged 24 – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for the treatment of leg fractures.

The rider of the motorbike – a 19-year-old man – was arrested nearby a short time later and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

Following inquiries by the Crash Investigation Unit, the rider was charged with six offences:

  • Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm,
  • Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm),
  • Never licensed person drive vehicle on road,
  • Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road,
  • Use unsafe or unserviceable vehicle on road etc, and
  • Motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet.

He was refused bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court today (Friday 13 June 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Tuesday 17 June 2025.
