Four police officers assaulted as man arrested for alleged DV offences - Tamworth

A man will face court today charged after four police officers were allegedly assaulted during arrest of a man for DV offences in Tamworth.

About 1pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 June 2025), officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to Bourne Street, Tamworth, following reports of a domestic-related incident.

Police were told a man attended the home and threatened a resident at the home with a knife before cutting a tyre swing and leaving on foot.

The man returned a short time later, allegedly threatening towards a man and woman inside a car with a knife.

No injuries were reported.

A short time later, police arrived and found the man walking on Bourne Street; police will allege he threw the tyre swing and threatened the officers with a knife when they attempted to arrest him.

A Taser was deployed to effect the arrest of a 28-year-old man taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with 11 offences,

  • stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic) (three counts)
  • destroy or damage property (DV)
  • armed with intent commit indictable offence
  • hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty
  • use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and
  • assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm (four counts).

He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Wednesday 4 June 2025).
