Four weapons seized during Operation Ares - Murray River PD

Police seized multiple knives during a high visibility operation in Albury.
Operation Ares is a high visibility police operation where officers used handheld scanners – or electronic metal-detecting ‘wands’ – to locate and seize knives in public places.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District conducted a handheld scanning operation in Albury CBD between 10am and 10pm on Friday 30 May 2025.
During the one day operation, the follow results were achieved;
- 98 people were scanned
- 4 weapons and prohibited drugs were detected and seized
- 4 people arrested
- 6 charges laid including a court attendance notice issued for possess prohibited drug and harass police in execution of their duty.
Notable incidents include;
About 2.15pm on Friday 30 May 2025, officers attached to Murray River Police District were patrolling Dean Street, Albury near the intersection of Macauley Street when they stopped a 49-year-old man for the purpose of a scan. Police allegedly found a knife inside a sheath in the man’s backpack. He was issued with a court attendance notice number for knife in a public place, to appear at Albury Local Court on Wednesday 18 June 2025.
About 10.55am on Friday 30 May 2025, officers attached to Murray River Police District were patrolling in a shopping plaza on Kiewa St, Albury when a 45-year-old man to scan. When the man allegedly became aggressive he was issued with a move on order. When he refused, he was arrested and removed from the building. He was issued with a court attendance notice for harass police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and will appear in Albury Local Court on Wednesday 18 June 2025.
