Teenagers charged after alleged break-in at Rutherford - Operation Soteria

Two teenage boys have been charged after an alleged break-in and subsequent dangerous driving in the state’s Hunter region.
Just after 1am today (Sunday 1 Jane 2025), police were called to Ventura Close, Rutherford, following multiple calls of a ute being driven dangerously.
On arrival, officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District found the ute had crashed into a parked car.
A short time later, police arrested a 17-year-old boy on Ryan Street, Rutherford, and a 15-year-old boy on Ventura Close.
Checks revealed the vehicle was stolen froma home in Rutherford area a short time before the crash.
They were taken to Maitland Police Station where the older boy was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, and negligent driving.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at children’s court on Thursday 12 June 2025.
The younger boy was charged with breach of bail.
He was refused bail to appear at children’s court today (Sunday 1 June 2025).
Investigations under Operation Soteria continue.
