Fatal house fire - Croydon

A person has died after house fire in Sydney’s inner west overnight.

Just after 4am today (Wednesday 28 May 2025), emergency services were called to Irrara Street, Croydon, following reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews attended and extinguished the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the house.

The body of a person was located inside the home and is yet to be formally identified.

Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Localised traffic diversions are in place as emergency services remain on scene.
