Man charged after firearm seized following pursuit at Riverwood

A man will appear in court today charged after a firearm was allegedly seized following a pursuit in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Just before 8.30pm last night (Friday 23 May 2025), officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command were in Riverwood for an unrelated matter, when they noticed a Mitsubishi Lancer on Truman Avenue.

Upon seeing officers, the Mitsubishi conducted a U-turn and drove away.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Belmore Road; however, the Mitsubishi failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated turning onto Canterbury Road before being terminated due to safety concerns.

Officers patrolled the Punchbowl area and located the vehicle parked on Tusmore Avenue.

With the assistance of the Dog Unit, a search was conducted with a discarded mobile phone, clothing and personal property located before a man was found hiding under a house on Kensington Street.

The 26-year-old man was removed and arrested.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly seized a Glock firearm and 3 sets of fraudulent number plates.

The Denham Court man was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place, police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, use vehicle displaying altered numberplate, enter inclosed land without lawful excuse, and possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 24 May 2025).
