Man charged over alleged property offences - Maitland

A man has been charged following alleged property offences near Maitland late last week.

On Friday 16 May 2025, a break and enter was reported at a home on Elm Close in Largs.

Jewellery, personal items and two electric guitars were allegedly stolen during the incident.

Police attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into the incident.

About 7.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 20 May 2025), officers attended a unit complex on Mallee Street, Gateshead, where they arrested a 46-year-old man.

A search of the man allegedly revealed a resealable plastic bag containing 2.74g methylamphetamine.

A subsequent search of the man's vehicle allegedly revealed two electric guitars and other items believed to have been stolen.

Following further inquiries, police located and secured several items of jewellery which had allegedly been pawned.

The man was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with break and enter house etc steal, two counts of dispose property - theft, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Belmont Local Court today (Wednesday 21 May 2025).
