Man charged after allegedly making hoax calls to '000'- Sydney

A man has been charged after allegedly making a series hoax phone calls to the ‘000’ emergency services number.

Detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command commenced an investigation on Saturday 12 April 2025, after a 000 call was received about 9.30pm, reporting that a male was armed with a firearm at the Town Hall light rail stop.

The caller described the person, including clothing and real-time movements, identifying the person who was live-streaming the incident via a social media platform at the location.

Police responded immediately, viewing the live-stream and CCTV footage, which showed no adverse events.

Inquiries revealed that a similar incident was reported in the Campsie area about 5.00am the same day.

Following concurrent investigations by detectives from Campsie and Sydney City Police Area Commands, about 7.15am today (Tuesday 20 May 2025), police conducted at search warrant at a unit in Garrong Road, Lakemba and arrested a 28-year-old man.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with 13 offences – give false information person/property in danger (12 counts) and make vexatious call to emergency service number.

He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (Tuesday 20 May 2025), where bail was formally refused, to appear at Dwoning Centre Local Court on Tuesday 15 July 2025.
