Man charged after alleged robbery and demand money incidents - Newcastle

A man will face court today charged following alleged robbery and demand money incidents at two service stations in Newcastle last night.
Just after 7.30pm yesterday (Sunday 18 May 2025), a man entered a service station on Parry Street, Newcastle West and asked the store employee to use the restroom.
Upon returning to the store, the man had his face covered and allegedly demanded money. The man collected the cash before he fled.
About 11pm (Sunday 18 May 2025), a man entered a service station on Maitland Road at Mayfield and allegedly threatened the store employee, demanding money from the register.
The employee activated the alarm and alerted police, while the man unlocked the doors and ran from the store.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District attended both locations and established crime scenes.
Following inquiries into the incidents, police attended a unit on Fowler Street, Hamilton South, and arrested a 24-year-old man.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with demand property with menaces, robbery, and breach of bail.
He was also charged with common assault and shoplifting for unrelated matters.
The man was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Monday 19 May 2025).
