Police are appealing for information as an investigation commences into two aggravated break-ins in the state’s north overnight.

About 1.45am today (Monday 19 May 2025), police attended a motel on Alice Street, Moree, following reports of two aggravated break-ins.

Officers attached to New England Police District were told four people – one armed with a machete – forced entry into one room that was unoccupied at the time.

The group forced entry into a second room where they threatened the 57-year-old male occupant, demanding his car keys before leaving in his Mitsubishi SUV.

The man did not require medical treatment.

A short time later, police were patrolling when they sighted the Mitsubishi driving dangerously and attempted to stop it on Warialda Street. When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

About 2.35am, police were patrolling when they again sighted the Mitsubishi and initiated a pursuit. A short time later the SUV was located abandoned on Grace Street, Moree and was seized for forensic examination.
