Man arrested over fatal Mudgee stabbing

A man has been arrested over the death of man who was stabbed at Mudgee overnight.

Police were called to Mudgee Hospital about 11pm (Saturday 17 May 2025), when a 22-year-old man died there after being brought to the hospital suffering a stab wound to his abdomen.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District established crime scenes at the hospital and Gladstone Street, where it’s believed the man was stabbed during a fight with another person.

Strike Force Dunedin – comprising detectives from Orana Mid-Western PD assisted by State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – was formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

About 3.20pm today (Sunday 18 May 2025), a 28-year-old man was arrested by Queensland Police after he attended Toowoomba Police Station.

NSW detectives are currently on route to Queensland to apply for an extradition warrant.

Investigations are continuing.
