Man charged following alleged car-jacking - Tamworth

A man will face court charged following an alleged carjacking in the state’s north west.

About 6am on Friday, 16 May 2025, emergency services were called to Mitchell Street, Westdale following reports a woman had allegedly been assaulted and her vehicle stolen.

On arrival, officers attached to Oxley Police District found a 68-year-old woman with a head injury. She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Tamworth Hospital in a serious condition.

Police will allege the woman’s vehicle, a white Toyota Kluger, was involved in several pursuits with police in the Hunter Region throughout the day.

About 7:30pm yesterday, police sighted a man walking toward the vehicle that was parked at a service station on George Street, Singleton.

Police attempted to speak with the man before he ran from the scene engaging in a foot pursuit.

With assistance from Polair a 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later in the back yard of a property in Kent Street, Singleton.

He was taken to Singleton Police Station where he was charged with aggravated assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle armed with an offensive instrument, police pursuit not stop drive dangerously and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.

He was also charged with two outstanding warrants.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today, Saturday 17 May 2025.
