A man has been charged with alleged high-range drink driving – more than seven times the legal limit - in the state’s north.

Just after 1.30pm today (Sunday 11 May 2025), officers attached to Lake Macquarie Highway Patrol received numerous calls from members of the public regarding a white Holden Rodeo allegedly seen to be driving erratically in the Speers Point area, colliding with gutters and raised concrete median strips.

Police managed to catch up with the driver on Croudace Bay Road, Belmont, where the driver, a 29-year-old man, was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station where a secondary breath analysis returned a reading of 0.359 – more than seven times the legal limit of 0.05.

He was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive with high range prescribed concentration of alcohol and his licence was suspended.

He is due to appear before Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 18 June 2025.
