Man dies in custody - Silverwater

A man has died whilst in custody at a correctional facility at Silverwater earlier today.

About 4.50pm on Thursday 24 April 2025, Corrective Services personnel at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre (MRRC) at Silverwater found a 53-year-old man unresponsive in a cell.

Despite the efforts of Corrective Services personnel and Ambulance Paramedics, the man could not be revived.

Officers from Auburn Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
