Second man charged over Greystanes ram-raid

A second man has been charged as inquiries continue into an alleged failed ram-raid at a shopping centre in Greystanes earlier this year.
About 4.20am on Friday 15 March 2024, officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were called to a complex on Merrylands Road following reports of a ram-raid.
Detectives appealed to the public for information and released CCTV showing two white vans allegedly used in the raid, and four men seen failing in their attempts to lift an ATM, before driving away empty-handed.
Two vans were located and forensically examined later that day, and police made further appeals to identify four men who may be able to assist with the investigation.
On Wednesday 14 August 2024, police executed a search warrant at a home on Simpson Street, Auburn, where they arrested a 40-year-old man.
He was taken to Auburn Police Station and charged with eight offences:
- Aggravated break and enter dwelling in company intending to steal less than or equal to value of $60k
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
- Possess prohibited drug – two counts
- Possess housebreaking implements
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen
- Fail to comply digital evidence access order direction
He remains before the courts.
Following further inquiries, yesterday (Wednesday 11 September 2024), police attended a correctional centre in Sutherland where they arrested a 30-year-old man.
He was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company intending to steal less than or equal to value of $60k and carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The man remains bail refused and will reappear before Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 30 October 2024.
