Police are encouraging participants of the Sydney Marathon to plan ahead by attending this year’s expo in preparation for this weekend’s race.

Large crowds are expected around the Darling Harbour precinct from today (Thursday 12 September 2024), through to Saturday (14 September 2024), as participants prepare for the race at the Sydney Marathon Running Show presented by ASICS.

About 40,000 people are registered to take part in the three races this Sunday (15 September 2024), and participants are encouraged to attend the running show early or expect delays.

A high-visibility police operation will be in place this weekend to ensure the safety and security of all participants, event staff and the wider community.

Operation Commander, Superintendent Paul Devaney, has urged participants to take this opportunity to plan ahead and visit the running show early to ensure they are organised ahead of race day.

“Tens of thousands of participants are expected to make their way to the Darling Harbour precinct over the next four days. To avoid any last-minute issues, we encourage you to get to the running show early to collect your event kit and drop off your finish-line belongings,” Supt Devaney said.

“Participants are reminded not to leave valuables such as wallets or phones within the bags provided.”

“If you’re unable to attend the running show, you can have a friend or family member who can provide your race information collect your kit on your behalf,” Supt Devaney said.

“We encourage the runners and anyone else attending the event to utilise the many public transport services on offer.”
