Man charged over alleged theft of cars, power tools - Murray River PD

A man has been charged over the alleged theft of vehicles and power tools from properties in the state’s Murray River region earlier this year.

Between Tuesday 5 July and Wednesday 6 July 2022, a white Holden Commodore was allegedly stolen during a break and enter at a home on Ehcuca Street, Moama.

Police will allege in court that the white Holden Commodore was painted black and had its registration altered.

The vehicle was recovered in Victoria on Tuesday 2 August 2022.

On Thursday 4 August 2022, a white Peugeot 330 was allegedly stolen from an address on Echuca Street, Moama, and power tools allegedly stolen from a property on Old Deniliquin Road, Moama.

On Wednesday 7 September 2022, police attended a home on George Steet, Moama, and located the Peugeot, stolen trailer and power tools – all allegedly stolen – as well as a replica firearm, ammunition, and a firearm magazine.

Following inquiries, police attended a motel at the corner of the Cobb Highway and Perricoota Road, Moama, about 10am last Friday (28 October 2022), and arrested a 25-year-old man.

He was taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he was charged with

  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Goods suspected stolen in/on premises (motor vehicle) (two counts)
  • Goods suspected stolen in/on premises (not motor vehicle)
  • Possess unauthorised firearm, and,
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

He appeared in Deniliquin Local Court on Friday 28 October 2022 where he was granted conditional bail to appear in Moama Local Court on Thursday 17 November 2022.
