Man charged with domestic violence offences after escaping custody - Nowra

Police have arrested a man who allegedly escaped from police custody on the state’s South Coast yesterday.
Police have been told a domestic-related incident occurred at a home on Mandalay Street, Nowra, about 9am yesterday (Thursday 22 September 2022) where a man allegedly threatened a woman with a machete before fleeing.
Officers attached to South Coast Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, a 23-year-old man was arrested at a home on Quickmatch Street, Nowra, a short time later.
The man allegedly fled and ran back into home before jumping the back fence.
He was arrested soon after following a short foot pursuit.
It will be also alleged, when the man became aggressive towards officers capsicum spray was deployed, and he was arrested.
He was taken to Nowra Police Station where he was charged with nine offences,
- Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm
- Possess ammunition without holding a licence/permit
- Not keep firearm safely
- Detention application
- Escape police custody
- Resist officer in execution of duty
- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, and
- Destroy or damage property.
He appeared in Nowra Local Court today (Friday 23 September 2022), where he was formally refused bail to appear in in the same court on Tuesday 8 November 2022.
During a subsequent Firearm Prohibitions Order compliance search at his home on Quickmatch Street, police located and seized a homemade tube gun, quantities of cannabis and methamphetamine.
