Teenager charged following pursuit in stolen car - Tumut

A teenage boy has been charged following a pursuit in an allegedly stolen car in the state’s Riverina region.

About 8.20am yesterday (Thursday 8 September 2022), officers attached to Riverina Police District attempted to stop a Holden Colorado, which had been reported stolen, on GoCup Road, Tumut.

The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated on Brungle Road, before being terminated for safety concerns.

A short time later, the vehicle stopped on Brungle Road, and the driver – a 15-year-old boy – was arrested.

He was subjected to a roadside breath test which allegedly returned a positive result, before being taken to Tumut Police Station, where he was subjected to a secondary test which allegedly returned a reading of 0.069.

The boy has been charged with 13 offences, including:

  • Enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence (two counts),
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (three counts),
  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception (two counts),
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner,
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly,
  • Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR,
  • Receive property – theft – serious indictable offence,
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle), and,
  • Drive with low range PCA.

Police will allege several vehicles were broken into in the Young, Gundagai and Coolac townships yesterday morning, with two stolen from a Coolac address.

He was refused bail to appear in a children’s court today (Friday 9 September 2022).
