Three charged as investigations continue into north coast airport brawl - Criminal Groups Squad

Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged three men as investigations continue into an alleged brawl at an airport on the state’s far north coast last year.
About 12.15pm on Thursday 25 February 2021, five men were allegedly involved in a brawl near the baggage carousel at Ballina/Byron Gateway Airport after they disembarked a flight from Sydney.
A short time later, the men were separated by security before an additional group of men arrived and accompanied two of the five men from the airport.
Officers attached to Richmond Police District conducted initial inquiries into the affray, before the matter was referred to detectives from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad, who commenced an investigation under Strike Force Newnham.
Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested three men – aged 31, 39 and 41 – at police stations across Sydney yesterday (Wednesday 24 August 2022).
The men were each charged with affray.
They have been granted conditional bail, with the 31-year-old due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 13 September 2022 and the other two men to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 15 September 2022.
Investigations under Strike Force Newnham are ongoing, and further arrests are expected.
