Investigation underway after woman, cafe robbed in CBD and Inner West

Saturday, 23 July 2022 07:21:54 PM

Police are searching for two men after a woman and café were robbed in Sydney’s CBD and Inner West early today.

Just before 4.20am (Saturday 23 July 2022), a 22-year-old woman was standing on Sussex Street when a Subaru hatch stopped near her.

The passenger, a man who had his face concealed, got out of the car and grabbed the woman’s handbag, causing her to fall to the ground.

The man fled in the vehicle and police were alerted. The woman wasn’t injured.

It’s believed the occupants of the Subaru were involved in a fail-to-stop crash with another vehicle on George Street a short time prior to the robbery.

About 7.45am, two men entered a café on Northumberland Avenue in Stanmore and confronted the employee, a 31-year-old woman, as she was setting up.

The men threatened her with a metal object and demanded money, before fleeing with cash from the register.

They left the area in a grey-coloured vehicle, believed to have been used in the earlier incident.

Officers from Sydney City and Inner West police area commands are investigating the incidents and are appealing for public assistance to identify and locate those involved.

Both men had their faces concealed; however, are described as being approximately 180cm tall, and of muscular build.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
