Police tackle crime on public transport - Operation Aramid

Police have charged over 50 people with drug, theft and weapon offences following a three-day operation across the Sydney region.
Operation Aramid was launched on Thursday 16 November 2023 with the goal to tackle anti-social behaviour across Sydney’s public transport network.
Officers attached to the Police Transport and Public Safety Command charged 53 people with 77 offences including possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug, custody of a knife, goods in custody, larceny and breach of bail.
Incidents of note include:
- Around 7am on Thursday (16 November 2023), police were conducted a drug dog operation at Central Railway Station when they approached a 46-year-old woman. Checks revealed the woman had an outstanding warrant in relation to a domestic violence offence. The woman was arrested and searched with police seizing cannabis, allegedly stolen clothing, and a tomahawk axe. She was taken to Surry Hills Police Station where she was charged with possess prohibited drug and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen. She was bail refused and appeared before Downing Centre Local Court that day.
- Just before 5pm on Thursday (16 November 2023), police approached a man carrying a knife on a carriage at Penrith Railway Station. The 57-year-old man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with carry knife visible in public place-cause fear for safety and hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty. The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Penrith Local Court on Thursday 7 December 2023.
- About 7.15pm on Friday (17 November 2023), police stopped a woman allegedly acting suspiciously at Central Station. Following inquiries police located over $4000 worth of clothing believed to have been stolen and two security tag removal devices. The items were seized for further forensic examination. The 45-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where she was charged with two counts of good in personal custody suspected being stolen and armed with intent commit indictable offence. She was granted bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 22 November 2023.
- About 2pm on Saturday (18 November 2023), police were called to Parramatta Railway Station following reports a person had been robbed. Officers arrived and were told a 28-year-old man had personal property stolen and was allegedly threatened. Following inquiries police arrested a 42-year-old man In Parramatta on the same day. He was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with Robbery. He was granted bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 28 November 2023.
