Man charged after $100m of drug shipments intercepted - Strike Force Torokina

Drug & Firearms Squad detectives have charged a man following an investigation into shipments of nearly $100 million worth of prohibited drugs.

In May 2023, detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Drug & Firearms Squad commenced an investigation into the discovery of approximately 40kg of methylamphetamine in a storage unit in Alexandria under Strike Force Torokina.

With assistance from Australian Border Force (ABF), two more drug shipments were identified and linked – a further 2.9kgs of methylamphetamine from the USA in July and 1.2kgs of methylamphetamine from Pakistan in September.

Following extensive inquiries, just after 6pm on Tuesday 26 September 2023, strike force detectives arrested a 25-year-old man in Alfords Point.

He was taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with eight offences including three counts of deal with identity info to commit etc indictable offence, two counts of possess comm qty unlawful import: border-controlled drug, two counts of deal with property proceeds of crime < $100000, and possess DECCD to commit etc serious criminal activity.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday 27 September 2023, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday 21 November 2023.

Police will allege in court the man used false identities to receive drug shipments, which he intended to supply for profit.
