Driver charged following fatal crash - Ashcroft

A man will face court today following a fatal crash in Sydney’s south-west earlier this week.

About 10.50am on Monday 6 November 2023, emergency services were called to Maxwells Avenue, Ashcroft, following reports of a crash.

On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command were told a grey sedan crashed into a tree and a power pole, before two people allegedly exited the vehicle and ran from the scene.

Two passengers of the vehicle – two boys, aged 13 and 14 – died at the scene.

A crime scene was established, which was forensically examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following inquiries, two men, aged 23 and 27, were arrested at Wetherill Park Police Station about 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 7 November 2023).

Both were then taken to Liverpool Hospital under police guard for assessment and injuries allegedly sustained during the crash.

Upon being released from hospital, the 27-year-old man was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with the following nine offences:

- Aggravated dangerous driving occasion death- speed 45 over (two counts),

- Dangerous driving occ death-drive manner dangerous (two counts),

- Fail to stop & assist after vehicle impact causing death (two counts),

- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road,

- Cause bodily harm by misconduct, and

- Negligent driving (occasioning death).

The Sadleir man was refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court today (Wednesday 8 November 2023).
