About 12pm on Thursday 26 October 2023, emergency services were called to a granny flat in Sans Souci following reports of an explosion.
On arrival, officers attached to St George Police Area Command – with assistance from NSW Fire & Rescue – found a clandestine drug lab and were told a male resident had allegedly fled the scene with an injury to his face.

A total of 5kg of methylamphetamine, 12kg of ephedrine and other chemicals consistent with the manufacture of prohibited drugs were located and seized to undergo further forensic examination.
State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Bumballa to investigate further.
