Pedestrians injured after crash - Burwood

Seven people have been injured after a vehicle mounted a footpath in Sydney’s Inner West.
About 12.25am today (Sunday 15 October 2023), emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle colliding with a group of pedestrians on Burwood Road, near the intersection of Railway Parade, Burwood.
Police have been informed that a Ford Ranger crashed into a stationary Toyota Camry before the Ranger mounted the footpath travelling a short distance colliding with five pedestrians and then hitting a parked and unattended Toyota Corolla.
The Camry – that at the time was operating as a ride share vehicle – was accepting a fare when the crash occurred.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the pedestrians and occupants of the Camry at the scene before they were taken to various hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ranger – a 19-year-old man – was arrested at the scene and taken to Burwood Police Station where he is currently assisting with inquiries.
Officers from Burwood Police Area Command established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
As investigations continue traffic diversions have been implemented and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
