Critical incident investigation underway after man dies in hospital - Wollstonecraft

A critical incident investigation is underway after a man died in hospital following a fall at a North Sydney unit yesterday.

About 11pm on Friday (12 May 2023) officers from North Shore Police Area Command attended a unit on Shirley Street, Wollstonecraft, after reports of a domestic incident.

Police spoke to the occupants, a 41-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man.

As part of inquiries, the man was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station before being released pending further investigation.

Just after 6am yesterday (Saturday 13 May 2023), police were called to the same unit after reports a man was attempting to gain entry to the property.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command attended and after entering the unit, saw a man lying injured on the driveway below.

Officers immediately rendered first aid to the man until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics. He was treated and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

A critical incident was declared, and investigators were later notified the 41-year-old man had died in hospital just after 11pm last night.

The critical incident team comprised of officers from Kuring Gai Police Area Command will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.

All information will be provided to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading to the man’s death.
