Drug and Firearms Squad detectives have charged two men and dismantled a clandestine laboratory following an investigation in Sydney’s south.

In December last year, officers from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force McGeoch to investigate the manufacture of prohibited drugs in Kurnell.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives – assisted by officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad and Dog Unit – executed search warrants at a property on Horning Street, Kurnell, from 5pm on Thursday 4 May 2023.

Two men – aged 56 and 29 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

During the search, police located approximately 6kg of MDMA, more than 100kg of unrefined drug and precursor chemicals, and hundreds of items comprising a complex clandestine laboratory located inside a shed at the rear of the property. Almost $200 000 cash was also seized at the scene, with all items to undergo further examination.

Specialist officers from the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Unit and Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT team attended the location to process and dismantle the lab, which concluded on Tuesday (9 May 2023).

The older man was charged with manufacture prohibited drug – large commercial quantity.

The younger man was charged with take part manufacture prohibited drug – large commercial quantity.

Both men were refused bail and appeared before Sutherland Local Court on Friday 5 May 2023, where they were formally refused bail and are next due to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Friday 7 July 2023.

Investigations under Strike Force McGeoch are ongoing.
