Man charged following fatal crash - Merrylands

A man has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into a fatal crash in Sydney’s west earlier this month.
About 5pm on Saturday 15 April 2023, emergency services were called to Hawksview Street, Merrylands, following reports of a three-vehicle crash.
On arrival, officers from Cumberland Police Area Command were told a Hyundai i30 and a Holden Commodore utility had collided, before the Holden rolled and hit a third parked Hilux utility, which was unoccupied.
Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the 35-year-old male passenger of the Holden died at the scene.
The driver of the Holden – a 23-year-old man - was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and mandatory testing before being released.
The driver of the Hyundai – a 37-year-old man – was not injured and underwent mandatory testing at Westmead Hospital.
A crime scene was established, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash commenced by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Following inquiries, the 23-year-old man was issued a Court Attendance Notice and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive speed dangerous and negligent driving occasioning death. His licence was also suspended.
He is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Thursday 22 June 2023.
