Four boys have been arrested after a pursuit involving an allegedly-stolen SUV in the Tamworth area.

About 10.30pm Friday (3 March 2023), officers attached to Oxley Police District were told that an Isuzu MU-X had been stolen from Peel Street, Tamworth.

Officers sighted the vehicle in the Coledale area and, after the vehicle failed to stop, engaged in a pursuit; however, it was soon terminated due to dangerous driving.

About 1am yesterday (Saturday 4 March 2023), officers again sighted the vehicle on Goonoo Goonoo Road, Tamworth, and commenced a pursuit, successfully deploying road spikes to stop the vehicle near Jewry Street, Tamworth.

The driver of the vehicle – a 14-year-old boy – was arrested after a short foot pursuit and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The three passengers – aged 13, 12 and 10 – were also arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where they were cautioned.

The driver has been charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, and enter enclosed land without lawful excuse.

He was refused bail to appear in a children’s court tomorrow (Monday 6 March 2023).
