Police are appealing for public assistance to locate two men missing from the Blue Mountains.
Alfred Zawadzki, aged 69, and Klaus Umland, aged 81, are believed to have commenced a bushwalk from Dunphy’s campground in the Megalong Valley on Wednesday 15 February 2023, telling a friend they intended to return on Friday 17 February 2023.
When the 69-year-old man failed to keep an appointment yesterday (Sunday 19 February 2023), officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command were notified and commenced a search for the missing men.
Police have located a car belonging to the missing 81-year-old man in the car park of Dunphy’s campground.
Alfred is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 180cm, with a medium build and grey hair.
Klaus is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 170cm, with grey hair.
Both men are described as regular and experienced bushwalkers and police believe activity of this nature would have been within their capabilities.
A Command Post has been established and a co-ordinated multi-agency searching party involving officers from the Blue Mountains PAC, Police Rescue Squad, PolAir, RFS and SES Bush Search and Rescue has resumed this morning at 7.00am (Monday 20 February 2023).
While information has been provided to police that the men had later decided to extend their walk, police are continuing their search and keen to speak with anyone who may have seen the pair since Friday.
Anyone with information about their whereabouts is urged to contact Blue Mountains Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
