Organised Crime Squad detectives are appealing for public assistance as they continue their investigation into the seizure of $1.8 million during a vehicle stop in Sydney’s west last year.

As part of an ongoing joint investigation with the Western Australia Police Force, Raptor Squad Highway Patrol officers were patrolling the Abbotsbury area when they stopped a vehicle about 10.50am on Thursday 27 October 2022.

Police spoke to the male driver, before a subsequent search of the vehicle located $1.8 million inside several vacuum sealed bags.

Officers seized the money for further forensic examination.

The man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station, but was released pending further inquiries.

Western Australia Police have since arrested and charged five men – aged between 27 and 36 – with money laundering and drug offences related to this ongoing investigation.

Police will allege the money originated from Western Australia, intended to be used to purchase prohibited drugs and transport back to WA.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone who may have information to come forward.
