Man dies, others seriously injured, after Yarragundry crash - Riverina Region

A man has died and others seriously injured after a crash in the state’s Riverina Region yesterday.

About 12.40pm (Tuesday 27 December 2022), emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway at Yarragundry, about 10km west of Wagga Wagga, following reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District attended and found a Holden Captiva and a Land Rover Defender had been involved in a head-on collision, with multiple people trapped.

NSW Ambulance Rescue, VRA and RFS worked to free the trapped occupants.

The driver of the Captiva – a 30-year-old South Australian man – was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His male passenger – who’s identity is yet to be confirmed – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

The 52-year-old male driver and passengers of the other vehicle – a man aged 23 and two women aged 51 and 29 - were also treated at the scene before being taken to Wagga Base Hospital. All are listed in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
