Driver charged following fatal pedestrian crash - Bankstown

A man has been charged after an elderly pedestrian was struck and killed in Bankstown yesterday.
About 3.30pm (Friday 23 December 2022), emergency services were called to the corner of Lopez Lane and Raymond Street, Bankstown, following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a 4WD.
The pedestrian – a 95-year-old woman – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle – a 66-year-old man – was uninjured and taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Upon release from hospital yesterday, the man was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 1 February 2023.
His licence was also suspended.
