Woman dies following crash - Glen Innes

A woman has died following a crash in the state’s Northern Tablelands yesterday.

About 11.15am (Thursday 8 December 2022), emergency services were called to the Gwydir Highway, near Waterloo Road, Glen Innes, following reports of a truck and car crash.

Upon arrival, officers attached to New England Police District located a b-double truck carrying cattle and an SUV had collided, trapping two people inside.

The female driver died at the scene. The woman is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 40s.

A baby was freed from the car by the Volunteer Rescue Association and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken from the scene for further assessment.

The driver of the truck – a 36-year-old man – was also treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A number of cows from the truck died at the scene, and a number were required to be humanely euthanised.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic police.
