Man charged over alleged break, enter and assault - Riverina PD

A man has been charged following an alleged aggravated break and enter and assault of a man at a home in the state’s Riverina at the weekend.

Sometime between 10am and 12pm Saturday (12 November 2022), police have been told a man attended a unit on Herbert Street, Tumut, but was refused entry.

The man then allegedly became aggressive and forced entry to the home and assaulted the 21-year-old male resident, before fleeing.

The resident sustained cuts and bruises and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

About 8.40pm that evening, police received multiple reports of a blue Holden Commodore allegedly being driven dangerously in the Tumut CBD, before hitting several parked vehicles.

The driver – a 35-year-old man – was arrested soon after a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to the Wagga Base Hospital for treatment.

He has since been released and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – use violence – serious indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Monday 14 November 2022).
