Driver charged, pedestrian critical - Blacktown

A man has been charged after a pedestrian was critically injured following a crash in Sydney’s west earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Third Avenue and Prince Street, Blacktown, just before 1pm on Monday (7 November 2022), after reports a woman had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the road.

The 52-year-old woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics after suffering serious injuries, before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota Hiace van – a 27-year-old man – was arrested at the scene by officers from Blacktown Police Area Command. He was taken to Blacktown Police Station and later released pending further inquiries.

Following ongoing investigations by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit, the man was issued court attendance notice yesterday (Tuesday 8 November 2022), for the offences of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm).

He will appear at Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday 20 December 2022.
