Man charged over armed robbery of taxi driver - Albury

A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery of a taxi driver in Albury earlier today.
About 5.45am (Thursday 8 April 2021), a 20-year-old man was picked up by a taxi on Mate Street, North Albury.
As the man exited the taxi on Plover Street, he allegedly produced a screwdriver and demanded cash from the driver.
The taxi driver complied, and the man exited the taxi with cash, a mobile phone and EFTPOS machine.
Officers from Murray River Police District were notified and commenced inquiries.
A short time later, police were notified of a man breaking into a home on Calimo Street, North Albury.
Police attended the home and established a crime scene.
During a search of the home, police located the 20-year-old man hiding in a cupboard.
He was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, enter prescribed premises of any person without lawful excuse, and use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence.
The man was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Thursday 8 April 2021).
