Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged a man over the alleged manufacture of ‘ice’, following a joint investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs.

In September last year, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad, together with the NSW Crime Commission, established Strike Force Granjon to investigate the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives, with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS) executed a search warrant at a unit at Campbell Street, Haymarket, and crime scene warrants at a unit and garage at Castlereagh Street, Haymarket, from 4pm on Friday 29 January 2021.

During a search of the Castlereagh Street premises, strike force investigators located a sophisticated clandestine laboratory.

Specialist police from the Drug and Firearms Squad’s Chemical Operations Unit attended and examined the property, which was subsequently dismantled.

Investigators seized 25kg of an unknown white power, as well as prescription medication, prohibited drugs believed to methylamphetamine (ice) and equipment consistent with the manufacture of illicit substances.

Officers also seized nearly $10,000 cash and five mobile phones.

During a search of the Campbell Street property, police seized further mobile phones, prescription medication, cannabis and other prohibited drugs.

All items seized during the operation will undergo further examination.

A 50-year-old man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with manufacture prohibited drug (indictable quantity, not cannabis), possess prohibited drug, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime and possess identity info to commit indictable offence.

The man – now aged 51 – appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday 30 January 2021, where he was refused bail to reappear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 8 April 2021).

Investigations under Strike Force Granjon are continuing.
