Sex Crimes Squad detectives have charged a man for allegedly possessing and sharing child abuse material under Strike Force Trawler.
Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation by Sex Crimes Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) into the sexual abuse and exploitation of children facilitated through the internet and related telecommunications devices.
Following an interstate referral, just before 9am yesterday (Thursday 23 May 2024), strike force detectives – with assistance from Chifley Police District and the Australian Federal Police – executed a search warrant at an address in Lithgow, where they arrested a 26-year-old man.
During a search of the man’s home, police located and seized electronics and a hidden video camera.
The man was taken to Lithgow Police Station, where he was charged with seven offences, including three counts of use carriage service to transmit/publish/promote child abuse, possess child abuse material, install device, adapt build etc to observe or film other, and two counts of film person in private act without consent.
He was refused bail and appeared in Lithgow Local Court yesterday.
Police will allege in court in addition to the possession and sharing of child abuse material, the man was using a video camera to secretly record other adults in intimate acts.
Investigations under Strike Force Trawler continue.
