A man will appear in court today, charged by Drug & Firearms Squad detectives under Strike Force Worrell.

Strike Force Worrell was established by State Crime Command’s Drug & Firearms Squad in October 2023 to investigate the suspicious purchases of drug manufacturing equipment by a 30-year-old man in Sydney’s west.

Following extensive inquiries, about 5.25pm yesterday (Thursday 18 April 2024), strike force detectives – with assistance from South West Metropolitan Operation Support Group – executed a warrant at a unit on Park Road in Homebush.

During the search of the unit, police located methylamphetamine, encrypted devices, and drug paraphernalia – including scales, vacuum seal bangs and hydraulic presses.

Police also searched a car, in which they located a rifle shortened to a pistol with a detached silencer, ammunition and a large capacity magazine.

In the car police also found more methylamphetamine – bringing the total to 6.8kgs, 2kgs of cocaine, heroin, ketamine, and 11kgs of various powders and crystal substances yet to be identified.

The drugs seized have a combined estimated street value of $3 million.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity, supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity, supply prohibited drug >indictable & <commercial quantity, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm and deal with property proceeds of crime < $100000.

He was refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Friday 19 April 2024).
