A man has been charged after two women were allegedly assaulted with pepper spray on a train in Sydney’s north west last month.

About 11.30pm on Saturday 14 June 2025, emergency services responded to reports of an assault at Lidcombe Railway Station.

Officers from Police Transport Command attended and were told that the women – both aged 22 – were travelling on a train between Circular Quay and Lidcombe Railway Stations when they were approached by a man not known to them.

After a short conversation, the man allegedly sprayed the women with pepper spray before entering another carriage.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the women at Lidcombe Railway Station before they were taken to Auburn Hospital in a stable condition.

Following extensive inquiries and an appeal for public information, a 20-year-old man was arrested at Parramatta Police Station about 10.30pm yesterday (Thursday 17 July 2025).

During a search of the man, police allegedly located and seized a can of pepper spray and clothing items.

The man was charged with two counts of use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 18 July 2025).
