Woman charged following alleged stabbing - Lake Illawarra

A woman will face court today after a woman and child were stabbed in the state’s south.

Just before 6pm (Wednesday 11 June 2025), emergency services were called to West Dapto Road, at Wongawilli, after reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were told a woman was driving with her two children, aged 10 and 3, when they were allegedly made to stop by another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle, an older woman known to them, allegedly exited and approached their vehicle, before an altercation began.

During the altercation, the older woman allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old woman and the 10-year-old boy.

Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both for stab wounds.

They were both airlifted to hospital in serious but stable conditions.

The 3-year-old boy was uninjured and was taken into the care of a family member.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.

Following inquires, about 6.30pm, police attended a Horsley home where they arrested a 59-year-old woman.

She was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where she was charged with wound person intend to cause grievous bodily harm (two counts).

She was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today, Thursday 12 June 2025.
