Further teen charged after alleged assault at Tamworth supermarket

A further teen has been charged after two men were allegedly assaulted at Tamworth last week.

Emergency services were called to a shopping complex on Kathleen Street, Tamworth, just after 7pm on Tuesday 27 May 2025, responding to reports a man had been stabbed.

Police were told a man confronted two boys, alleging they were stealing. They left the store but allegedly returned with a number of other people.

Four of the youths approached the man and allegedly assaulted him, before his son intervened; he was also allegedly assaulted before the youths left the area.

The 51-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and was taken to Tamworth Hospital where he was treated for a stab wound to his lower back as well as cuts and bruising.

His son – aged 27 – suffered bruises and abrasions but did not require hospital treatment.

Two boys were arrested the same day and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, about 10.40am today (Wednesday 4 June 2025), a 17-year-old boy attended Tamworth Police Station where he was arrested.

He was charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s).

The teen was given conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Wednesday 18 June 2025.
