Teen charged over alleged aggravated break, enter and steal - Operation Soteria

A teenage boy has been charged as part of an ongoing operation in the state's north.

Operation Soteria was established to target youth crime in the western and northern regional areas of the state.

About 9:30pm yesterday, (Wednesday 14 May 2025), police were called to a home on Mitchell Avenue, West Kempsey, following reports two youths had entered the house.

Police were told two boys allegedly followed the occupant – a 76-year-old woman – into the house before the woman ran to a neighbour’s house.

She was not injured.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District attended and located one of the boys in a vehicle parked in the garage.

Following a foot pursuit, police arrested a 13-year-old boy was nearby.

The boy was taken to Kempsey Police Station and issued a Court Attendance Notice for aggravated break, enter and commit serious indictable offence - persons on premises, possess housebreaking implements and attempt take and drive conveyance.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before a Children's court on Wednesday 4 June 2025.
